Mariners Junior

The Mariner Junior Program is sponsored by the South Coast Sailing Team. Membership is open twice a year; spring season and fall season. An Information Night for the Mariner Juniors is held each season (in September for the fall season and in February for the spring season) at the Orange County Sailing and Events Center, 34451 Ensenada Place, Dana Point, CA 92629.

$300 Mariners Junior (includes sailing classes).

Payment of fees and submission of paperwork entitles each youth to our classes, a Mariner Junior T-shirt  and a weekend cruise (optional-additional fee).

AGE REQUIREMENTS
Youth registering for Fall Classes must be 12 by November 1. Youth registering for Spring Classes must be 12 by May 1.

Mariners

$365 First Season (includes sailing classes, competition and uniform). 

In addition to the above fees, Mariners are required to register and pay annual dues with BSA directly. The 2023 rate for this is $145.  This is prorated from January to December.  After your first season, this will be included in your next season payment.

Spring or Fall Seasons (After your first season)

Youth registering for Fall Classes must be 14 by November 1. Youth registering for Spring Classes must be 14 by May 1.

The BSA membership is not required for Mariners Junior. 

Discounts (discounts can only be used once, and not in the first season as they are already subsidized)

We offer the following discounts:

$ 170 when 2 siblings join
$ 110 when 2 siblings join
$ 110 for Paddlers
$ 200 for HS Racers

Financial Assistance

We remain dedicated to the principle that no one shall be denied the opportunity to participate in Mariners because of financial reasons. 

Which is why we created the Swabby Program. Youth have the opportunity to earn an hourly rate on maintenance projects that can be used to offset their yearly dues or cost of cruises.

Mariners will be paid $18 in Swabby Dollars /hour. Their earnings will go to their Swabby account to cover the cost of tuition, competition and cruises. 

The Cvengros Scholarship

Christopher William Cvengros was a very active, dedicated member of the Mariners Sea Scouts in Dana Point for 5 years.  His tragic death on December 15, 1996, shocked and saddened the close-knit community of young people that shared with him a love of the sea and all things nautical while nurturing care and love for the other shipmates.

In loving memory of their son, Bill and Joan Cvengros, have established a $10,000 college scholarship to be awarded each year to a qualifying applicant.  The scholarships will benefit those youth who like Chris have spent years as Mariners Sea Scouts pursuing a better knowledge and enjoyment of the sea as well as developing an emphasis on safety.  Each scholarship will be awarded in equal installments over four years providing the awardees continue to show academic success by maintaining an overall grade of at least 2.5. The funds set aside for the scholarship will expire even if the four-year college program hasn’t been finished by then.
